Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture is designed as an introduction to political ethics. It focuses on political-ethical classics (Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Augustine, Hobbes, Locke, Kant...) and contemporary concepts that are particularly oriented toward the normative shaping of society. Practically oriented social philosophies and political-ethical concepts are presented and discussed. The presentation focuses on normative conceptions of political public sphere and their foundation in media ethics. The lecture concludes with considerations on the political consequences of digital and “synthetic” communication and information processing.
Note: The lecture is designed as a face-to-face event. All lectures will also be broadcast live via Zoom and recorded, and can be viewed until the last exam date. Information on this will follow in the Moodle course for the event.

Assessment and permitted materials

Es werden aller Voraussicht nach vier Prüfungstermine angeboten. Die Prüfungen finden abwechselnd schriftlich und mündlich statt.

Die Anmeldung zu den offiziellen Prüfungsterminen erfolgt durch die Studierenden über u:space (21-7 Tage vor dem Prüfungstermin), die Reservierung eines Zeitslots für mündliche Prüfungen erfolgt via TEMPUS (ein Eintrag ist 6-2 Tage vor dem Prüfungstermin möglich). Ein Eintrag in TEMPUS ohne vorherige Anmeldung über u:space ist nicht gültig.

Die Lehrveranstaltungsprüfung wird in Deutsch abgehalten. Auf Wunsch des Studierenden und nach Anfrage unter sozialethik@univie.ac.at kann die Prüfung auch in Englisch abgelegt werden.

Erlaubte Hilfsmittel bei der Prüfung: keine

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Eine positive Bewertung der Prüfung wird erreicht, wenn mindestens die Hälfte der maximalen Punktezahl der schriftlichen Prüfung erreicht wird (Note 4). Die weiteren Noten werden linear gebildet. Eine sehr gute Leistung (Note 1) liegt vor, wenn die gestellten Anforderungen in weit über das Wesentliche hinausgehendem Ausmaß erfüllt sind.

Examination topics

Prüfungsstoff sind die Vorlesungsinhalte (via Aufzeichnungen verfügbar) und ggf. vereinbarte Pflichtlektüre.
