Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Why didn't you want to have children? How regularly did you have marital sexual intercourse? Did you suspect even before the wedding that you were mentally unstable? These and many other very personal questions are answered by hundreds of believers every year when they appear before church marital tribunals. It is not uncommon that the accusation is raised that the Church is acting in secret about marriage annulment and other procedures without publicity and based on written principle.
Book VII of CIC 1983 provides procedures to safeguard individual rights and to impose sanctions if grave violations of the law occur.
The Seminar is intended to present the history and organization of the ecclesiastical courts (static part) and the structure of the canonical process (dynamic part). The focus lies on the marriage nullity procedure. Its reform by Pope represents the most legally significant reform of the current pontificate.
In addition, the Seminar deepens questions on ecclesiastical marital law (canons 1055-1165). Starting from the canons, pastoral questions are asked in connection with the canonical norms and its importance in marriage nullity processes. In pastoral praxis marriage law questions frequently arise and the Seminar is particularly suitable as an introduction to the work of ecclesiastical jurisdiction.
