010110 VO Introduction to Catholic Theology I (2017S)

3.00 ECTS (2.00 SWS), SPL 1 - Theologien und Religionswiss.

Die „Einführung in die Katholische Theologie I“ beschäftigt sich mit wichtigen Gehalten der christlichen Lehrgeschichte und der europäischen Geistesgeschichte. Dabei sind theologische und christologische Fragen zentral. Diese beiden Fragestellungen werden auf der Basis entfaltet, die mit Jesus von Nazareth gegeben ist: auf der Basis einer verbindlichen Zugehörigkeit des Christentums zum ewigen Bund Gottes mit Israel, weil Jesus Jude und nicht Grieche oder Römer war. Daher wird es auch um die Beziehung zum Judentum in Geschichte und Gegenwart gehen, die durch christliche Entwicklungen massiv belastet ist; diese Belastung ist seit dem 2. Vatikanischen Konzil wenigstens bewusst geworden, wenn auch eine Umkehr in der systematischen Katholischen Theologie nur zaghaft anläuft.

Aims, contents and method of the course

MAIN OBJECTS: Knowledge of the tasks, important topics, and methods of systematic theology as well as its inner connection to the historical and contemporary Judaism due to Jesus of Nazareth.
CONTENS:
- Main issues of systematic theology
- Relation between Christianity and Judaism as a decisive fact for Christian self-evidence
- Main stages of ecclesiastical teaching as guidelines of theology in general
- Important thinkers of Christian history, their topics, coincidences, and arguments
- God's revelation through Israel and Jesus; the eternal covenant
- Theology in contemporary European society and its resistance to modern idols
METHOD: Oral lecture; Moodle platform summarizing each lecture; theological discussions

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam, no auxiliary means allowed

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Basic knowledge of the topics of the course
STANDARD FO EXAM: consisting of three parts: multiple choice, one-sentence questions, and a short essay.
