010126 VO Basic Course Fundamental Theology II (Text and Tradition) (2017W)

3.00 ECTS (2.00 SWS), SPL 1 - Theologien und Religionswiss.

Die Vorlesung behandelt den Themenbereich von Schrift als einer entscheidenden Form der Selbstkonstitution von Glaubensgemeinschaften, nimmt einen theologischen Standpunkt ein und hat dabei im Zentrum die biblischen Glaubensgemeinschaften jüdischer und christlicher Tradition. Daher ergibt sich auch die Frage nach der Bedeutung von Traditionen von selbst, ebenso die Frage nach deren Wirkungen und Wirksamkeiten, die sich mitunter deutlich über den eigenen Bereich hinaus erstrecken.

- God speaks and man writes down
- Letters and language
- Grammar and reason
- Writing and Scripture
- Scripture as manifestation of religious communities
- Scripture - canon - dogma
- Concept of tradition
- Body of tradition
- Scripture and tradition between Judaism and Christianity
- Effects of Christian tradition

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral exam, 15 min.
Content of exam: Content of the course or of the alternative literature
Facilities allowed during the exam: none
The language of the exam is either German or English.
Benchmark for a positive grad: rough knowledge of the topics mentioned above (LV-Inhalte (englisch))

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The main goals of the lecture are the knowledge of
- the relation between Scripture and tradition
- the contingency of writing, grammar, and reason
- the relevance of Holy Scriptures to a religious community
- the tensions between Scripture and dogma
- the main analogies and differences between Jewish and Christian access to and use of tradition
- the main effects of Christian tradition and its ecclesiastical transmission in practice and society
