Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture introduces central religious practices and rituals of Alevism. Drawing on selected sources and current scholarly studies, it explores both mystical-ethical foundations and liturgical as well as communal forms. Students will gain a basic understanding of Alevi religious practice, learn to distinguish it from other traditions, and develop an awareness of the dynamic interplay between text, ritual, and lived experience.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written examination: Details will be announced during the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The examination is considered passed if more than 50% of the questions are answered correctly in terms of content.

Grading scale:
Excellent: 89–100%
Good: 75–88%
Satisfactory: 63–75%
Sufficient: 51–62%
Insufficient: ≤ 50%

Examination topics

All content covered in the course, in particular the subject-specific and didactic content and considerations, will be presented in the lecture. An overview of the course and the relevant texts will be made available on Moodle.
