Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Life of Brian, The Passion of the Christ, Jesus Loves Me … whoever now says: “Oh yes, Jesus movies!” — or: “Oh no, that’s really not my thing at all” — or even: “Hmm … will I have to work with this at some point later on?” — this seminar is exactly the right place for you :)!
Through this course, students are to develop, on the one hand, the ability to assess portrayals of Jesus in films from exegetical, religious-educational, and film-analytic perspectives. We will be supported by a filmmaker who also teaches film classes.
Students also acquire religious-didactic competence to interpret the medium of film in general, and Jesus films in particular, with regard to their relevance for religious education. To this end, the receptive perspectives of pupils, the aims of religious education, and insights gained from film analyses are taken as a basis.
On the second Friday evening, we will host a public film night, where you can choose from two films.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation in preliminary discussions and block sessions, workshops and discussions, as well as a written assignment.
For the course Religion and Media: 10 pages or a film with a concept (theological-educational)
For the seminar Problems in the History of Early Christianity: 15 pages
For the interdisciplinary seminar: 15 pages or a film with a theological-educational concept
