Aims, contents and method of the course
Introduction to the basic concepts of Austrian health law (definitions, history, organizational structure, informed consent, professional confidentiality etc.)Language of instruction: German
Assessment and permitted materials
Written exams in November and January (attendance exams, the exact dates will be announced at the start of the course)Participation in the course is mandatory (as regular interaction between the lecturer and students is essential for a better understanding of the complex topics discussed), students are allowed to miss two course units (not the exams!). No-show in the first unit without a justified reason will result in loss of the allocated place.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Written intermediate test and final test (around 30 mins each, each around 50% of total points ). In principle, 51% of the maximum points are required for a positive assessment.
Examination topics
Presentation (with PPP slides) of basic questions of Austrian medical law, slected case-studies will also be presented.For the exams: Up-to-date legal texts, especially FlexLex Medical Law. Fifth edition will be available in October near the start of the course.

The recommended literature is only available in German: Wallner, Medizinrecht (2nd edition 2022); for more details see: Aigner ua (eds), Medizinrecht für die Praxis (lose-leaf; rdb.at) or Resch/Wallner (eds) Handbuch Medizinrecht (3rd edition 2020; also available online via LexisNexis360)For the exams: Up-to-date legal texts, especially FlexLex Medical Law.
