Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will address current legal problems arising under international space law. The seminar will be structured around Manfred Lachs Space law Moot Court Competition problems. The Manfred Lachs Space law Moot Court Competition is organised annually by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL). The problems will be discussed in particular on the basis of following cases:

http://www.iislweb.org/lachsmoot/problems/prob2010.pdf
Space tourism; Definition of Outer Space; Liability for damages
2011: Republic of Zuris and The Commonwealth of Nova Freedonia
http://www.iislweb.org/docs/2011problem.pdf
Liability for damages; Return of astronauts; Environmental protection
The topics discussed focus on the problems and issues arising in these cases. Participants have to choose one of the topics and conduct research on them. A large part of the seminar will revolve around the discussion of the cases and case-related problems as well as on presentations of work by participants.
