Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar covers the International Military Tribunal for the Far East.In the preliminary meeting, a list of suggested topics for your work will be presented. The seminar is intended to give you the opportunity to delve deeper into a subject area, work on a topic independently and present and discuss it with colleagues. Independent work and a shared discourse between students and teachers are the focus of the seminar.The assigned seminar topics will be presented and discussed in the seminar. You have 15 minutes available for your presentation. Students are free to use presentation programs (Powerpoint, ...). In addition, a handout must be prepared, information on this will follow in the preliminary meeting.
Assessment and permitted materials
Seminar paper in German or English (min. 50,000 characters incl. spaces and footnotes, and presentation (15 minutes) and contribution to discussions.Participation counts towards the final grade.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Mandatory attendance at the preliminary meeting and for the entire duration of the seminar.
Submission of a seminar paper (50,000 characters).
Presentation, consisting of a 15‑minute talk and a discussion of one’s own seminar paper.
Handouts for the other seminar participants.
A positively assessed written paper (weight: 1/3); the submission deadline (15 July 2026) must be met.
A positively assessed oral presentation and discussion of one’s own seminar paper (weight: 1/3).
A positively assessed contribution to the discussion of the other presentations (weight: 1/3).The seminar is open to diploma students, IREWI students, and doctoral candidates.It is possible to write bachelor’s theses as part of the seminar. A commitment to supervise a bachelor’s thesis requires participation in the seminar.Participation in the seminar is strongly recommended for students writing a master’s thesis.In both cases, the general requirements for bachelor’s and master’s theses apply.
