The course provides students with the opportunity to work academically on selected legal questions concerning AI, while receiving direct input and feedback from experts in the field. Topics include algorithmic accountability, ethical programming, AI liability, cross-border regulation, and the growing use of AI in judicial decision-making, along with its legal and constitutional implications.
The participation of experienced practitioners as Manuel Mofidian, attorney-at-law and founder of the law boutique MOFIDIAN (specializing in venture capital, IT & AI, and IP law) – gives students the opportunity to benefit from first-hand insights into real-world legal practice. Mr. Mofidian also teaches at TU Wien.
Each session is structured to combine theoretical input with practice-based discussion. Students will engage with current legal issues and present self-chosen topics, strengthening their analytical, presentation, and argumentation skills in the process. Students who choose to present a topic in class will have the unique opportunity to receive direct feedback from legal professionals with real-world experience in the field. This personal input from practitioners enriches the academic work and allows students to further refine their legal reasoning, communication, and presentation skills in a practical context. Please note: This course contributes to the language competence requirement (Fremdsprachenkompetenz) needed for the diploma program. However, it accounts for only one credit hour, while a total of two credit hours is required for completion of the diploma programme. Therefore, you will need to complete an additional language course to meet the curricular requirements.
