Aims, contents and method of the course

The course "EU Constitutional Law - Common Principles, Structures and Traditions" aims to introduce students to the common constituional traditions of the nowadays European Union by drawing from constitutional legal history of its main Member States. This course thus deals with the foundations and structural characteristics as well as principles of EU constitutional law.
Finally, current challenges for the European Union shall be examined and discussed on the basis of the principles of European constitutional law
Students are encouraged to actively contribute to the constitutional systems of their member states. Historical considerations and comparative analysis of the constitutional law of selected Member States and their influence on EU constitutional law are then analysed and placed in context.

Written exam: 70% and
Participation in class: 30%

Examination topics

Students have the possibility of writing an ERASMUS-paper within this course; research subjects shall be provided via MOODLE and/or during the first course unit. Own ideas contributions are welcome.
