Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This semester's SOLV is an interactive reading course, supplemented by sessions with guest speakers and a role-playing game. The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the interdisciplinary research field of International Political Economy. This will be done by means of an introduction to the different theoretical strands of IPE (liberalism, realism, structuralism & heterodox approaches) and a historical analysis of the globalization of economic relations (Pax Britannica, Bretton Woods, etc.). Later in the course we will deal with the thematic blocks "trade" (supply chains, free trade, WTO, etc.) and "money and finance" (FDI, World Bank, IMF, etc.). This course is designed to promote critical engagement with the topics covered through autonomous text study and collaborative discussion. The SOLV (self-organized course) is a series of courses organized by the Economics grassroots group Roter Börsenkrach (www.roterboersenkrach.at). The goal is to teach content that students feel is missing or under-covered in the Economics curriculum. Therefore, the choice of topics, planning and implementation of the course are the responsibility of interested students. If you want to participate in the organization of this or one of the next SOLVs, please contact the organization team (solv@roterboersenkrach.at).Please note that this class will be held in German and that only part of the reading materials are available in English. All assessments are to be handed in and/or held in German Language. Sufficient knowledge of German is thus indispensable.
