Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course provides advanced training in empirical methods used in modern labor economics and related fields, with a particular emphasis on the connection between economic theory, causal identification, policy evaluation, and simulation. Starting from a canonical labor supply model, the course illustrates how economic behavior can be analyzed using reduced-form and structural approaches.

In particular, the course will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to code and estimate a structural model, how to show the results in a presentation, and how to structure a research paper. Empirical applications in Stata, R, Python, and MATLAB illustrate the methods.

Assessment and permitted materials

Replication code (20%), presentation (40%), and final exam (40%).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To pass, students need to achieve at least 50% of the maximum achievable score in total.
