This course consists of two parts. On the one hand, the focus is on the development of the legal framework of accounting and the discussion of fundamental questions of corporate accounting (concerning both individual and consolidated financial statements). The basis for this is the European legal framework, company law, corporate law, group law and tax law.The second part deals in depth with accounting aspects of group law. Based on a discussion of the specific legal foundations of group accounting, questions and special features of the consolidated financial statements, the notes to the consolidated financial statements and the group management report are dealt with, such as: Preparation of the consolidated financial statements (in particular, the obligation to consolidate and the scope of consolidation, size-dependent exemptions from preparation and other exemption provisions, deadlines); content and form of the consolidated financial statements (applicable regulations, simplifications); audit, approval and disclosure of the consolidated financial statements. Special legal issues of international consolidated financial statements and the group-relevant provisions of EU accounting law (in particular IFRS financial statements in Austria) are also dealt with in detail. In addition to other courses and with a view to their future professional activities, students are offered an interdisciplinary insight into the legal framework of corporate accounting. Basic accounting issues are also to be discussed, which should also promote the independent recognition and solution of special accounting recognition, valuation and disclosure issues.Slides or PowerPoint presentations are used; these are available for download in the Moodle course.
