Aims, contents and method of the course

AbsolventInnen der Lehrveranstaltung verstehen die grundlegenden Funktionsweisen von Datenbanksystemen, können Datenbanken entwerfen und abfragen, können Datenbanksysteme für die Erstellung von Anwendungssystemen einsetzen und in Programme einbinden, kennen die theoretischen Grundlagen der relationalen Datenbanken, verstehen die Probleme des Mehrbenutzerbetriebs und die grundsätzlichen Lösungsmöglichkeiten. Anhand von praktischen Aufgabenstellungen vertiefen die Studierenden die notwendigen Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten Datenbanksysteme für die Erstellung von Anwendungssystemen einzusetzen.

Die LV behandelt die folgenden Inhalte:
- Einführung, Grundbegriffe und Darstellungsformen
- Grundlagen der logischen Datenorganisation, relationales Modell
- Datenbanksprachen (Schwerpunkt SQL)
- Integrität und Sicherheit
- Konzeptuelle Modellierung
- Physische Datenorganisation, Speicher- File- und Index-Strukturen
- Abfrageabarbeitung und Optimierung
- Transaktionen und Recovery
- Programmieren mit Datenbanksystemen

Im Rahmen der LV werden die Inhalte theoretisch aufgearbeitet (Theorieteil) und praktisch umgesetzt (Praxis-/Übungsteil). Aus diesem Grund wird die LV in zwei Teilen durchgeführt:
- Theorieteil: jeweils DI, 13:15 – 14:45, HS1 (keine Anwesenheitspflicht, die LV wird mit u:stream ins Web übertragen)
- Praxis-/Übungsteil: wöchentlich spezifischer Termin pro Gruppe (Anwesenheitspflicht)

Assessment and permitted materials

Im Theorieteil und Praxis-/Übungsteil können jeweils 50 Punkte erreicht werden. Die Endnote der LV ergibt sich aus der Summe der beiden Teile (d.h. maximal erzielbare notenrelevante Gesamtpunkteanzahl = 100).

Es werden 3 Leistungskontrollen durchgeführt:
- Schriftliche Klausur über den Theorieteil (keine Hilfsmittel erlaubt): max. 50 Punkte
- Präsentationen von gelösten Hausübungsbeispielen und Mitarbeit im Praxis-/Übungsteil: max. 20 Punkte
- Abgabe und Präsentation der selbst erstellten Projektarbeit: max. 30 Punkte

Sine qua non Bedingungen zum erfolgreichen Abschluss der LV:
- Anwesenheit im Praxis-/Übungsteil ist verpflichtend
- Projektabgabe ist verpflichtend

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Zum positiven Abschluss ist das Erfüllen der sine qua non Bedingungen und das Erreichen von mindestens 50 Punkten notwendig. Die Note ergibt sich aus der erreichten Punkteanzahl nach folgendem Schlüssel:
Notenskala: Sehr Gut [100-87.5], Gut ]87.5-75], Befriedigend ]75-62.5], Genügend ]62.5-50], Nicht Genügend ]50-0]
