Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This lecture series provides an overview of current developments in the field of artificial intelligence. This year's focus will be on using AI to advance all forms of research, including research in the humanities, the social sciences, the natural sciences, as well as research in AI itself.The first three weeks of lectures will introduce the foundations of machine learning and current AI models. You will get a high level overview of how AI models work and how they are developed.For the remainder of the semester, there will be talks by researchers from Vienna and abroad who use methods from AI to advance their respective fields, including, but not limited to, AI in education, AI for enzyme discovery, AI to study human cognition, AI-based brain-computer interfaces, and AI-driven literary studies.See the Moodle course for a full list of invited speakers.
Assessment and permitted materials
The final grade is determined by the grade of the written examination at the end of the semester.Additionally, you can collect bonus points up to 10 percentage points for in-person attendance during the invited talks (see below for details).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
At least 50% of the possible points must be achieved at the end of the semester.BONUS POINTSAdditionally, you will be able to collect bonus points for attending invited talks in person during the semester, which may boost your final grade by up to 10 percentage points. Specifically, if you attend at least 8 out of 10 invited talks (lectures between 14/04 and 16/06) in person, you will get a 10 percentage points bonus on the final exam. If you attend fewer than 8 invited talks in person, you will not receive any bonus points.GRADING SCHEMEThe following grading scheme applies:87% - 100% of the points: grade 1
75% - <87% of the points: grade 2
62% - <75% of the points: grade 3
50% - <62% of the points: grade 4
<50% of points: failed
75% - <87% of the points: grade 2

Examination topics
In the written exam, questions on the topics of the lectures must be answered.
