Der Kurs bietet zunächst eine grobe Einführung in das spätrömische Geldwesen und seine Besonderheiten. Anschließend geht es in der Zeit von 294 bis 313 n. Chr. mehr ins Detail, hierbei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der Buntmetallprägung. Diese Periode eignet sich besonders dazu, um sich anhand ausgewählter, nicht ausufernder Beispiele verschiedenen Facetten der Münzproduktion zu widmen und selbständig herauszuarbeiten, inwiefern sich wechselnde politische Allianzen darin ablesen lassen.
