060062 VU Experimental Archaeology: practical course (2026S)

The course serves as a practical exercise in Experimental Archaeology and the History of Technology. Its aim is to provide practical foundations based on the topics introduced during the winter semester. The hands-on aspects of this research methodologyincluding craftsmanship skills, artisanal practices, technical equipment and processes, and knowledge of the properties of various materialsare taught through concrete experiments conducted during a four-day workshop at the open-air site of the MAMUZ Prehistoric Museum in Asparn an der Zaya.
An additional key focus is the documentation of experiments and their preparation for publication. The integration of interdisciplinary research methods and scientific analytical techniques serves as a vital tool in this context.
