Aims, contents and method of the course

Contents: Reading and translating of excerpts from select biblical, hagiographical and other texts in the Sahidic dialect of Coptic of easy to intermediate difficulty, and understanding the grammatical difficulties that come with that. Students will need to prepare draft translations at home in preparation of the class.
Goals: At the end of the course the students should be able to independently translate and interpret Sahidic Coptic texts of easy to intermediate difficulty.

Assessment and permitted materials

Compulsory attendance with attendance list (1 unexcused absence is permitted). Attendance in at least 9 LV-units is required to successfully complete the course).
Active participation in the exercises (50%).
Oral test (with written preparation) at the end of the course (50%).

The test performance is evaluated with a five-part grading scale:
88 - 100 % 1
75 - 87,99 % 2
62,51 - 74,99 % 3
50 - 62,5 % 4
0 - 49,99 % 5
