Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

WOOD as a tissue with typical cellular patterns can be determined to genus/species with the help of special preparation techniques. Archaeological finds can be interesting museum objects. But more often they enrich the archaeological informations of a site/stratum/complex.
For absolute dating C14 or dendrochronology (depending on wood species and good preservation of a sufficient ring number) are available. The lecture wants to demonstrate the basics of different methods and to discuss, based on examples from practice, possibilities and limits of the investigation and interpretation of wooden finds .
