Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course discusses themes and key texts of the recent transnational history of East Central Europe. The thematic foci are territoriality of the Habsburg Monarchy and its successor states in a European context, economic entanglement and nationalization, migration and the transnational significance of diasporas, transnationalization through transborder exchange, encounter and adaptation of “foreign” cultural and knowledge regimes.

Assessment and permitted materials

The historiographical sources or secondary texts selected and provided on Moodle by the course leader are prepared in small groups of 2-3 persons and presented for joint discussion; the students in charge summarize the results in written papers (2-3 pages altogether).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This seminary is a course with continuous assessment of students' performance, good reading English skills and personal attendance is compulsory. Two units may be missed with excuse. The minimum requirement is the willingness to actively deal with the texts.The performance assessment is based on the oral presentation (40%), the written summary (30%) and the active discussion (30%).
