Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This is a hands-on filmmaking course in 360° Virtual Reality video creation, built for history and humanities students and taught through active practice rather than lecture. Students learn the full production pipeline: shooting on a professional 360 camera, editing spherical footage, and publishing to a headset or any web browser and apply it to real historical sites around Vienna. The craft at its center is placement: because 360 removes both the cut and the frame, where you put the camera becomes the entire argument. Students finish the term with a portfolio of complete immersive pieces and a transferable production skillset suited to public history and museum work, where the VR format has found its most durable home.

Assessment and permitted materials

No prior video or VR experience is required. Assessment runs through the two projects plus ongoing exercises, not exams:

Homework: 30%
Small Group Project (group shoot, individual edit): 20%
Final 360 VR Film Project (group-built 360 piece + paper + solo reflection): 40%
Participation: 10%
