Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This class is intended to prepare the students for those seminars in the master program, where a more in-depth historical analysis will be achieved. For this purpose, participants of this class will be familiarized with the most relevant theories, concepts, and scientific controversies in modern history. The class is interactive. Participants are strongly urged to consult the readings, which will be made available through moodle, in order to prepare for class. The broad overview of historical approaches makes this class attractive also for BA-students.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written exam with questions regarding general comprehension and detailed information. Half of the requirement for the exam can be covered by a voluntary written work like a review, an essay, an analysis of an image or a film, or the comment on a historical source.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Participants should be offered a thorough overview of the most relevant theories, concepts, and controversies in modern history.
Examination topics
Short presentations from guest lecturers with thorough discussion on the basis of the readings provided beforehand
