The seminar provides advice and support for master's theses (MA UF Teaching GSP, MA History new) and dissertations primarily in the following subject areas:
- History didactics
- Historical-political education
- Didactics of political education
- Social and cultural history
- Comparative studies on history and political didactics as well as on social and cultural science issues.Content
The seminar starts with central questions regarding the conception and writing of master's theses and dissertations in the above-mentioned subject areas: How to arrive at a relevant scientific question? How to structure a written thesis? How to elaborate research strategies in the chosen subject area? How to structure and argue an academic thesis? How to create a realistic work plan? Which forms of support for my own (empirical) research do I choose (e.g., research diary, portfolio) and which regular forms of reflection on my work progress are suitable for my working style? How do I monitor my work progress? How to find distance from my involvement/entanglements in the research process? etc. Methods
Based on mandatory presentations on individual research work and ongoing interim reports on work progress, individual consultations on the respective work projects are offered in the seminar. These consultations provide an opportunity for peer evaluation of the work plan and project concept as well as case discussions.
