Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Historical learning no longer develops independently of historical and cultural manifestations; on the contrary, history is more present than ever; it is more legitimate than ever to speak of a sustained history boom. Whether on streaming platforms, in the gaming sector, in countless graphic novels, or on theater stages: history is truly everywhere, and we all come into contact with it in many different ways. Accordingly, the development of historical and cultural competence—that is, the ability, skill, and willingness that encompasses participation in, but also reflection on, historical cultures—is described as the primary learning objective of history teaching. This seminar aims to explore the continued popularity of feature films with historical content, analyze selected examples from a theory-based perspective, and prepare them for historical learning.
