Aims, contents and method of the course

Reading Traces: The Act of Writing and Reading Traces
The Past and the Present in the Middle Ages

In the act of writing, if it does not follow a dictation, a first reflection on the content takes place, which is done by the reader on a second level. If the reader leaves traces in the text, he offers us his reflection on the text.
To trace these reading traces, especially in historiography, offers us a view of reception, transformation of knowledge about history.

Assessment and permitted materials


Regular Attendance and collaboration
Presentation of a specifically chosen focus from the framework of the sources presented in the introductory units (3., 10. Und 24. 3.2026)
Presentation 15 minutes each
Dates: Exposé on the chosen topic: Submission: 18.4.2026
Thesis: Deadline: 30.7.2026!
