Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course constitutes a companion seminar for the preparation of a final thesis (MA or PhD). Relevant stages in the development of a thesis (literature and source research, historiography, structure, research question, methodology, theory, etc.) are discussed in depth and based on appropriate examples. The aim is for participants to acquire profound knowledge of academic writing and the specific requirements of a final thesis. The course centers on inputs on research techniques for literature and sources, archival collections, text design and genres, academic standards and citation styles, as well as writing and presentation skills. In each session, students will present their projects and discuss them within the group. Particular emphasis is placed on constructive feedback among all participants, an inclusive working and learning environment, and a positive approach to learning from mistakes.
Assessment and permitted materials
The course assessment consists of active participation, an oral presentation about the stage of a final thesis and a written research proposal.
