Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Both popular and (later) auteur cinema as well as documentaries reacted almost immediately with the means of the then still "new" medium to the traumatic exchange of populations which was legally formulated in Lausanne in 1923. They continued to do so throughout the twentieth century. More recently ethnographers and anthropologists have also used film as a research and communication tool. Depending on the periods in which the films were made, Greek-Turkish relations form part of the societal background of the films, while historical documentaries and museum didactics use the film to cover also this topic. The recent commemoration years 2021 and 2023 created a renewed interest and new productions. The seminar will attempt a chronology and typology of stylistic choices and narrative formulas and if possible, an approach to audiences and receptions.
