Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Die Exkursion führt durch die Landschaften Zentral- und Ost-Makedoniens sowie Thrakiens. Es handelt sich um Ortschaften und Erinnerungsorte zwischen zwei bedeutenden urbanen Zentren sowohl des Römischen und Byzantinischen als auch des Osmanischen Reiches: Thessaloniki und Adrianoupolis, Selanik und Edirne, zwei Großstädte heute jeweils in Griechenland und in der Republik Türkei. Der Fokus der Exkursion liegt im Raum zwischen diesen beiden Zentren, die als Rahmung dienen. Neben Sakralbauten und Befestigungsanlagen besprechen wir in der Vorbereitung und besichtigen wir vor Ort auch die Infrastruktur der Tabak- und der Seidenindustrie, die von großer Bedeutung für die Region waren, sowie die entsprechenden Sammlungen und Museen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt in der Neuzeit und Moderne, Exkurse zu früheren Epochen werden gemacht.
Der 8. Mai 2026 ist als Anreisetag, der 16. Mai 2026 als Abreisetag vorgesehen, das Besichtigungsprogramm dauert vom 9. bis 15. Mai 2026.

Vorbesprechung am 30. Januar 2026, 12.00-13.30 im Hörsaal des Instituts für Byzantinistik und Neogräzistik. Dort werden erste Besichtigungspunkte besprochen, ersten Termine fixiert und praktische Aspekte der Reise diskutiert.
