Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

We want to reach the B1 proficiency level.
Progressive development of the four language skills.
Comprehension of oral and written language in standard Spanish.
Reception and production of texts with appropriate grammatical structures to recount experiences and past events.
Participatory teaching and learning methods, centered on the specific interests and needs of the students and oriented toward the development of oral and written communication.
The political, social, and cultural current affairs of Spanish-speaking countries will be the primary themes of the course.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment is based on two written exams (midterm and final) and an oral interview. The use of dictionaries or the mandatory reading book is not permitted.
The final grade is weighted as follows:
Midterm exam: 40%
Final exam: 40%
Oral interview: 20%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance is mandatory, as this course follows a continuous assessment model. Three unexcused absences are permitted, as participation and teamwork are essential to achieving the learning objectives.
The assessment tools also include two written exams and an oral interview:
Midterm exam: 40%
Final exam: 40%
Oral interview: 20%
A total score of at least 60% is required to pass the course.
Grading Scale:
90–100%: 1 (Excellent / Sehr gut)
80–89%: 2 (Good / Gut)
70–79%: 3 (Satisfactory / Befriedigend)
60–69%: 4 (Sufficient / Genügend)
Below 60%: 5 (Fail / Nicht genügend)

Examination topics

Grammar exercises will cover all topics studied up to the exam date. The exercise formats will be similar to those on Moodle (gap-fill, sentence completion, verb selection, etc.). There will also be reading comprehension and writing tasks, which require knowledge of the grammatical, lexical, and thematic content from the readings and audiovisual materials covered during the course.
The midterm exam will include a reading comprehension question, while the final exam will require an essay on The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. In the oral interview, students must demonstrate proficiency in the grammar and vocabulary learned throughout the course, as well as knowledge of the content of Cisneros' book.
