Assessment to evaluate students’ ability to use European Portuguese at CEFR level A2/B1 consists of:Continuous assessment (50% of the final grade):
Participation in class activities, pair and group exercises, and guided discussions.
Short oral and written tasks completed during the semester.
Demonstration of progressive use of Portuguese in classroom communication.Final examination (50% of the final grade)
Oral component: short conversation, role-play, or presentation (5–10 minutes) to assess spoken competence and interaction in semi-familiar contexts.
Written component: short texts (emails, descriptions, narratives), applying vocabulary, grammar, and coherence at A2+/B1 level.
Listening comprehension: understanding of short authentic or semi-authentic spoken texts.
Reading comprehension: understanding of short authentic or semi-authentic written texts.Assessment criteria

In order to obtain a positive assessment (Pass / Ausreichend, 4,0), students must fulfill the following:Attendance and participation
Attend at least 75% of total contact hours.
Actively participate in class activities, including pair work, group exercises, and guided discussions.Continuous assessment / Partial performances
Complete all short oral and written tasks during the semester.
Show continuous effort in applying European Portuguese in communication tasks.Final examination
Obtain at least 50% of total points in the combined oral, written, listening, and reading components.Demonstrate competence corresponding to CEFR A2+/B1 descriptors:
handling simple and routine tasks in familiar and semi-familiar situations.
producing short, coherent texts on familiar topics with adequate grammar and vocabulary.
understanding the main points of spoken and written texts related to personal, work, and social contexts.Assessment of partial performances / individual tasks
Oral tasks: evaluated for fluency, intelligibility, accuracy, and appropriate use of vocabulary and grammar.
Written tasks: assessed for clarity, coherence, correctness, and appropriate style for A2+/B1 level.
Listening and reading tasks: evaluated for ability to understand main points and relevant details.
Partial credit is given if communication is successful despite occasional errors.Grading / Points

- listening comprehension of authentic spoken texts featuring intermediate-level vocabulary and a more natural speech rate;
- reading comprehension of short semi-authentic and authentic texts (e.g. news articles, emails, and blogs), including the interpretation of idiomatic expressions;
- writing short, coherent texts and messages for a range of communicative contexts;
- oral interaction through guided and semi-guided dialogues, including expressing opinions and providing explanations;
- cultural topics such as customs, everyday life, the media, public holidays, and traditions in Portugal.The course adopts a communicative, student-centred approach, with a strong emphasis on interaction and practical language use through:
- role-plays, pair and group work, debates, and guided discussions;
- listening and reading comprehension activities based on semi-authentic and authentic materials;
- short writing tasks (e.g. emails, short narratives, and descriptions);
- continuous feedback and formative assessment to support individual progress.
