Aims, contents and method of the course

---Text genres for standards tests and school leaving exams (Kompetenzorientierte Reifeprüfung)

---Literary vs. factual writing
---Creative writing as a way to acquire language skills
---Literary genres and their characteristics
---Examples of best practice

Students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with writing techniques and text genres by experimenting, discussing and sharing their efforts and comparing them with best practice examples.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment will be based on a portfolio of sample texts as well as course participation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The objective of this course is to enable students to teach writing skills by (1) focusing on standards-based text types, their characteristics and criteria of assessment and by (2) experimenting with creative writing techniques as a means to explore English in an interesting and motivating way that goes beyond traditional classroom activities.
