The first (short) session will be on the 11th of March with important information on your practicum and its accompanying tasks: 11.3. 13.30 - 14.45.
The session on the 18th will thus be shortened to 13.30-14.45.
If the situation should change towards the second half of the semester, some session will be organized onsite.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to assist and support student teachers during their practicum phase with regard to observation techniques, planning tasks, classroom management issues and the evaluation of their observations and teaching experiences. In addition students are introduced to the concept of action research (AR) and will be assisted in carrying out an AR Project during their field experience.

Core Content:

applying theoretical concepts in practice;

subject-specific observation techniques;

planning EFL language teaching activities and lessons and sequences of lessons

professional reflection procedures (individual and collaborative)

principles and procedures of action research

Method:

interactive class with student participation in small-group and all-class discussions of topics related to participants' observations, teaching experience and students' action research projects

The main instrument for observation, reflection and discussion is the EPOSTL - European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages - please bring your personal copy along (print or e-version) for all sessions

Assessment and permitted materials

1) Attendance of all blocks is mandatory/in case of a change to distance learning: attendance of online sessions

2) Active participation (in class and) on-line + presentation of assignments, presentation of teaching inquiry project (AR) ;

3) 30-minute debriefing session at an individually arranged date towards the end of the semester; hand-in of the teaching inquiry Project (AR) report;

4) Upload of complete Practicum Documentation Pack

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Requirements ("zwingend vorgeschriebene Leistungen"): You are expected to
1. hand in all written assignments,
2. summarize your reflections on your practicum + present a vignette in the debriefing session;
3. present your Practicum Documentation Pack ;
4. hand-in your teaching inquiry project (AR Project Report) ;
5. presentation of your AR Project.

Credits for the course / requirements:
1. Full and active participation + home assignments (reading etc.)
15%
2. 30-minute debriefing session 20%
3. Brief Presentation of AR Project 15%
4. AR Project Report 50%
