Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Written examination (two dates per semester), multiple option (90 minute "Modulprüfung" in conjunction with Language Analysis).
No materials permitted in the exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum pass level: Both parts of the Modulprüfung in combination must reach 60% while one part may not be any lower than 55% (with the other part making up the missing percentages to reach the 60% overall).Students will be familiar with the basic principles of phonetics, sociolinguistics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, first and second language acquisition and will be able to apply their knowledge to English texts. Students will be able to read English in phonemic transcription.
Examination topics
All the topics covered in the lectures and in the required readings; a list of chapters from the two prescribed books will be provided on Moodle.
