Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

- study of contemporary climate fictions in prose writing (novel, short story), film and non-fiction essay
- distinction of post-apocalyptic and speculative fiction
- discussion of depiction of animals and animal figures, human and non-human agency
- consideration of gendered and racialized narrative, depictions of nationa, class, age, disability
- methods from cultural studies, narratology and genre studies, media studies, environmental humanities, critical ocean studies

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentation, 15 minutes 30%
Final Paper, 3150 to 3850 words, due February 28 70%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- each requirement has to be fulfilled with 60% or grade 4 minimum for a pass
- attendance and participation
- paper proposal during last third of term
- (online) meeting with instructor to discuss paper proposal in the course of the last third of term
