Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This class is meant to give future teachers of English a foundation on which to define their learning aims, select their materials and prepare their activities with the use of literature in the language classroom. We will analyse literary texts and evaluate their relevance for the EFL classroom. Students will experience various approaches towards literature in language pedagogy. Students will produce a book review video of themselves, engage in group activities, discussion and reflection and will be expected to write an individual academic paper, to be submitted at the end of term.

Assessment and permitted materials

term paper (incl. literary analysis, didactic analysis and a lesson plan with a rationale), participation in discussions and activities

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance is obligatory; two classes can be missed
The final grade is composed in the following way:
20% participation
80% paper
Both requirements need to be fulfilled, the pass mark is 60%

Grading scale:
100%-91% Sehr Gut
90%-81% Gut
80%-71% Befriedigend
70%-60% Genügend
59%-0% Nicht Genügend

Examination topics
