Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to familiarize the students with the central aspects of the morphology and the structure of phrases and sentences in Hungarian. This is the continuation of the course 'Descriptive Grammar of Hungarian I' from last semester.
Requirements: 'Descriptive Grammar of Hungarian I' or equivalent. Background is linguistics ('Introduction to Linguistics' or equivalent knowledge) is required, knowledge of Hungarian is a plus.
Topics:
Introduction: A general overview of the syntactic and morphosyntactic features
of Hungarian. Morphological categories,
Inflection
Categories: Nouns (nominal roots and inflection), the topic. The nominalphrase, pronouns, Verb (verbal roots and inflection), the predicate in the sentence, non-finite verbforms

Derivation and compounding
Structure of the sentence: focussing, quantification, negation.

Methods: lecture, exercises

Assessment and permitted materials

Total score: 100 points
Minimum requirement: 50 points
Ways to reach the points:
EITHER
1. Written exam: 100 points OR
2. 40 points for homeworks and activity + 60 points for the written exam

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Assessment criteria:
90-100% = Sehr gut
75-89% = Gut
60-74 % = Befriedigend
50%-59 %= Genügend
