Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Experiencing bibliographical basics concerning national and comparative literature, introduction for beginners how to use university libraries and archives. Knowledge of literary historical documents, archive records, author manuscripts, history of books and printing.

Assessment and permitted materials

a. Oral presentation of a group paper.
b. Feedback from the teacher, discussion of the participants.
c. The participants repeat the main topics of the previous session.
d. The participants write short weekly home exercises.
e. The participants present their proposed solutions to the home exercises in the next session.
f. Feedback from the teacher on the proposed solutions.
g. The participants submit two tasks in writing: poetry interpretation, short film interpretation.
h. Written personal feedback from the teacher on both tasks.
i. Active discussion of the participants about the interpretation in the next session.
j. Due to the introductory and orientation phase, the final exam is an uniform written test for all three parallel courses.
k. The use of a transcription table is permitted as an aid in the test.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The students recognize which libraries and archives are important and how to use them.
They find their way around using bibliographic aids and reference works (print & online).
They know how to write a scientific paper, they know the rules of citation.

(A) Evaluation of the presented part of the course:
a. Text interpretation: 10 points
b. Short film interpretation: 10 points
c. Attendance in the course & virtual visit to the specialist library, weekly homework: 20 points
d. Group presentation: 10 points
Total: 50 points
(B) Evaluation of the test:
50 points (50-45: very good, 44-39: good, 38-32: satisfactory, 31-26: sufficient, 25-0: insufficient)

The overall grade results from (A) and (B).

Examination topics

Regular participation in the course; participation in discussion; group presentation; short written assignments;
analysis of a primary text and its literary environment; interpretation of a short film and practicing the scientific tools of comparative literature.

The final exam takes place online on Moodle. It consists of 10 exam questions. An optional trial test in December is intended to help students demonstrate the skills they have acquired so far.
