Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
An introduction to Classical Syriac: script(s), basic grammar & vocabulary; a few easy texts will be read in class; background information on the history of the Syriac-speaking communities, on lingustic history and on Syriac literature will be given.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Basic competences in the language and the ability to translate simple texts with the help of the dictionary
Examination topics
Lectures on grammar and exercises, for which student participation is required
