Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this class is to reach an understanding of the multifaceted phenomenon of Sufism in its historical as well as in its present-day dimensions. Through the reading of secondary literature as well as primary sufic texts, core structures and dynamics of Sufism will be discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation (close reading, translations and discussion in class.), short papers during the semester, final paper

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular attendance (3 times missing is permissible), active participation in the discussion, working on exercises and the final paper in time and according to the rules of scientific working. Further details will be announced in the first class.

With these steps, a reflecting understanding of the topics to be discussed shall be demonstrated.

20% active participation (attendance, discussion)
20% homework and translation
60% final paper
