Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will deal with literary letters in Akkadian from the second and first millennium BC. The aim of the course is to improve the knowledge of Akkadian grammar and the cuneiform script. Students will be given an introduction to Akkadian epistolography on the basis of a sub-corpus which hitherto has attracted little attention .

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course's aim is to improve the students' knowledge of Akkadian grammar and of the cuneiform script and to introduce them to Akkadian epistolographic literature.

Examination topics

the text will be read in class; students are required to prepare for this; in addition, they will give short presentations on pertinent topics; students will take two written exams, one at mid-term, one at the end of the term.

Reading list

Bibliographical references will be given in the first meeting of the class.
