Aims, contents and method of the course

Course Introduction: This one-semester undergraduate field methods course is devoted to training students how to identity a research community, and develop questionnaires to collect both qualitative and quantitative data, process them and model them to answer various questions about the community.

Pre-requisite and follow-up: A basic introductory course in an African studies discipline (Linguistics/Literature/History) is a pre-requisite.

Format of Class meetings: Class interaction will be in the form of lectures, student presentations, computer-based electronic communications.

Assessment is by coursework, including a survey report on the African diaspora in Vienna.
