Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will offer an overview of recent scholarship about the Ottoman Empire. Current fields and objectives of research as well as methods will be presented with a special focus on historical, cultural, and interdisciplinary methods. Moreover, selected publications will be discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation, discussion of texts, writing of summaries and a review to be delivered in the last unit.
Please comply with the plagiarism regulations of the University of Vienna.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular attendance is mandatory (being absent three times is tolerated).
A sound knowledge of English is required.
Participants are required to actively take part in the course and to hand in written materials by the given deadlines.
The final mark is composed of
participation (25%)
summaries (50%)
review (25%)

Examination topics

The weekly portions of reading (in English and German) are part of the exam materials. A list of texts to be summarized and reviewed will be available on Moodle.
