Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims and contents: Getting to know the main source of Ottoman literary history: the poets' biographies (tezkire-i shu'arâ)
Method: informative text, reports on research, reading and discussing texts. Presence at the seminar is obligatory, but if necessary hybrid instruction or pure online instruction will take place. The methods and the ways of supervising performance can change.

Assessment and permitted materials

No final examination but see under "Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab" (minimum requirements and criteria of evaluation) as well as under "Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung" (aims, contents, and method of the course).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The minimum requirements for a positive evaluation are constant active collaboration (missing thrice at most is permitted), an oral report complete with handout, and the writing of a seminar paper (including a possible consultation talk thereon) on the life and work of an Ottoman poet (chosen by the student) according to the rules of good scholarly practice (among other things: no plagiarism! acceptable linguistic and stylistic level! correct citing!). The collaboration includes research on a small scale and short reports on it as well as discussion. Each partial accomplishment will be evaluated individually. The seminar paper (and possible consultation talk) will make up 60 % of the evaluation, the oral report with handout and other collaboration 40 % thereof.

Examination topics

Reading list
