Dharmakīrti on the Path to Liberation: Selected Passages from the Pramāṇavārttika

This course offers the opportunity to read selected passages from the Pramāṇavārttika, the first work composed by the Buddhist philosopher Dharmakīrti (6th-7th? cent.). The passages are from the Pramāṇasiddhi chapter (=PV II), more specifically from the section in which different views on how to attain liberation are discussed. The PV text will be studied and translated together with Manorathanandin's Vṛtti (Sanskrit) and Devendrabuddhi's Pañjikā (Tibetan).
The course aims to examine the philosophical contents of the texts, place them in their historical context, and consider them from the point of view of textual criticism.

Please note that the course is in English. Discussions can be in German.
