Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

First, mechanisms within a society that enable potential conflicts to be identified and reduced are highlighted: various regulatory mechanisms in social coexistence are discussed, ranging from specific rituals, the influence of art forms up to the role of mediators.
In the summer semester of 2026, the focus will be on the role of music in conflict resolution, democratisation processes and various peace strategies.

The course will be structured around interactive lectures, discussions and small group work and aims to promote understanding between cultures, learn to recognize different points of view and perspectives, and make foreign concepts comprehensible.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation during the semester and a final examination at the end of the semester are used for grading. MA students are also required to submit a short written paper on a chosen topic.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

No specific qualifications are required for participation. Active participation during the semester is expected.
