Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Grading is usually based on a final exam (in the form of a multiple-choice test (in German language)).Due to the particular circumstances in 2020, it cannot be ruled out that the exam must be held online and that modalities may change as well.Further details on exam modalities and preparing for the exam can be found on the moodle platform.The four exam dates (at the end of the semester and in the course of the following winter semester) are announced on u:space, u:find and moodle.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
A score of over 50% is required to pass the final exam with a positive grade. Further details concerning the exam are provided on the moodle platform.
Examination topics
Lecture material and accompanying information can be found on the e-learning platform (moodle). The lecture series is held in German language; several articles of the reading list are in English.The final grade is based on a written exam which covers the contents of the lectures and resources on the e-learning platform.

The teaching language is German. Japanese language skills are not required.The aim of this lecture series is to provide sound knowledge of Japan’s politics and economics, as well as a basic understanding of contemporary history, enabling students to independently assess current developments in Japan and beyond. The lecture series intends to nurture interest so as to encourage self-study to further deepen knowledge.Please refer to the German version of this page for further details.
