Assessment and permitted materials
Class activities will consist of discussions, which can also take the form of presentations or debates. Your attendance at each class session is mandatory. Your preparation for discussions before each class is essential for the conduction of the course. You are expected to complete the reading assignments and other research tasks given to you before you come to the class.
Depending on the size of the class, you will be assigned as the main presenter and the main discussant for different topics. Your performance for each assigned task will be evaluated separately, which will be aggregated for your final score.
There will be no separate exams.
The workload of this course is moderate.
The class will NOT admit new students after its 3rd session (the 4th if including the introductory session).
You will not be eligible for the exam if you miss 3 sessions. Absence from class needs to be announced beforehand. Each absence will lead to a discount of your attendance score.

This course will introduce and explore major issues. Discussions will be directed not only to the factors that are universally shared in all corrupt practices but also those local, contextual and cultural elements that cultivate corruption in certain societies where the problem of corruption is more deep-rooted than in others.
At the end of the semester, course participants should be familiar with the causes for the culture of corruption when doing business in China, its facilitating mechanisms, such as, “guanxi”, and associated legal and moral risks.More info of the lecturer can be found at https://univie.academia.edu/LingLi.
