In der Vorlesung soll der historische Werdergang dieses Rockstils thematisiert werden, der heute in der Literatur unter den vagen Begriffen „progressive rock“ oder „art rock“ subsumiert wird. Darüber hinaus sollen im Seminar Begriffe wie Gesamtkunstwerk, Konzeptalbum, Technologie und Psychedelic diskutiert werden, die im Zusammenhang mit den oben erwähnten Gruppen in den Rockdiskurs eingeführt wurden.
