Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
In order to finish the course, students have to
1. be present and participate actively (3 absences are allowed)
2. hand in homeworks on time
3. hold a short, 10-minute presentation (topics will be comunicated during the course)
4. complete a test at the end of the semesterPLEASE NOTE:
Those who you attend the first session and don't deregister in time will receive a grade.

Having passed the Introduction and Orientation Phase (Studieneingangs- und Orientierungsphase, StEOP)PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COURSE WILL BE IN GERMAN!
so there is another implicit requirement: somewhat fluent German.Assessment:
The final grade will be based on a scoring system. Explanation will be given at the start of the semester.

Aims, contents and method of the course
As the title suggests, this course is meant as an introduction to the fundamental techniques and tools of working academically. Please note that this course will give an overview of different 'musicologies' before focusing on the skills relevant to historical musicology.Objectives:
Students who complete this course
1. know and understand the requirements for academic work,
2. are trained in dealing with academic sources of musicology,
3. are acquainted with the fundamentals of designing smaller written essays and texts, and
4. know how to devise and write academic textsContent:
1. What is scholarship (with an emphasis on the Humanities) and an academic way of working?
2. familiarity and ease with musicological sources (research/critical examination/citation)
3. academic writingMethods:
Lecture: Introduction to the fundamentals by the lecturer
Discussion: Interactive debate of different topics
Practical work: Exercises in class and at home (homework)
